GEOTHERMAL IN THE NEWS

The general public is slowly getting educated about geothermal heating and it helps when a mainstream publication puts it in plain language for the mass audience.  The N.Y. Times published a good column on 3/7/11 (Here) that gives a great overview from the perspective of a homeowner.  In addition to educating ourselves to provide the best possible installations for our customers, it never hurts to give the customer the knowledge that lets them reach the conclusions that work for all of us.

THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY
TESTING BOOTCAMP

We recently completed our first T.C Testing class and received great reviews from the participants.  Our goal was to de-mystify the TC testing and analysis process.  There is opportunity for providing this important service to the commercial market and experienced contractors have already made most of the investment needed to take the next step.

This is a hands-on course that is a combination of field and classroom Demonstrating the check list for start up and tear downtraining in performing field TC Testing.  We go in rain, shine or snow!  Our course will take you step-by-step through the setup, equipment, methods and  data analysis process on an actual test borehole installed just for this course.  During this course, we will be using commercially available test fixtures and design software. For more information and a course outline, visit our web site at www.geotrainers.com
.  Our next class is scheduled for July 20, 2011.

 OPTIMIZING LOOPFIELDS
& PIPING DESIGN
 Web Workshop

Designers of commercial and large residential geothermal systems already know that designs need to be more than guesswork. Using a computer aided design tool requires a methodical approach and an understanding of how the different components in a design and system interact. GTI and the developers of the Groundloop Design Software (GLD) are offering a web-based workshop series that may be perfect for you! This workshop offers the advantage of an in-depth presentation with NO travel and learning from a live, expert instructor. This workshop respects your time and gives you a chance to actually use what you learn as the class progresses.

In April, we are offering a compressed time option featuring three hour sessions on M - W - F, instead of one day per week.  The May format returns to every Thursday for three hours, over three weeks.  Either way, you can learn how to use Ground Loop Design (GLD) 2010, the industry leading design tool, to design and optimize loopfields and design headers and piping that correctly, every time.

If you have used other software or an early version of GLD for design, you will benefit from our hands-on learning. Go beyond the Loopfield Designer, the topic of week one, with the CFD Module for Piping Design, which is the topic of the second week session of our web workshop. Learn how the new piping designer sizes your pipes, manifolds and loop circuits properly to ensure the system can be effectively purged and operates within an optimal fluid dynamic range of your selected equipment.

All that you need is a computer, an internet connection and the desire to learn.   Our next class starts April 11, 2011.  Sign-up now!

A "horseshoe" reverse return header can reduce pressure drop in a loopfield by 20% compared to a standard reverse return configuration.
