Names are validated using standard English spelling (GeoNames database), with accent tolerance.

Data and sources

GeoNames

The city database comes from GeoNames, an open source widely used for geographic data. Like any worldwide database, it can contain spelling variants, homonyms, and differences across local conventions.

The database includes more than 160,000 cities.

Without an account, yes: progress is stored locally on this device and browser.

With an account, your progress can be recovered across devices after signing in.

An account lets you sync progress, save stats, and appear on leaderboards. You can still play without one.

After a certain number of cities found, you can add the country code with a comma or a space (e.g., "Springfield, US" or "Springfield US").

No, leaderboards require an account to attach stats to a profile. You can still play freely as a guest.

Check English spelling (e.g., "Munich" rather than "München") or try an ASCII variant. The global dat abase can also contain local variants or exceptions.
