1. Acceptance of the terms
GeoTrainers (www.geotrainers.com) is published by Alessio M., an individual publisher based in France. By using the site, with or without an account, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the service.
These terms work together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how your data is handled.
2. What GeoTrainers is
GeoTrainers is a free set of geography games: locating cities, recognising countries, timed training, daily challenges, competitive leaderboards and multiplayer sessions. It is an educational and recreational project, not a professional reference tool.
Geographical data comes from open databases. Despite the care we take, an entry may be incomplete, outdated or wrong, and the game is provided for learning and entertainment rather than as an authoritative source.
3. Who may play
The games can be played by anyone without registering. Creating an account requires you to be at least 13 years old. In France, players under 15 must have the consent of a parent or guardian, who is then responsible for the use made of the account.
4. Your account
An account is optional and free. It is needed only for competitive leaderboards, friends, multiplayer sessions and synchronising your progress across devices.
- Provide a valid email address: it is used to verify your account and to reset your password.
- Choose a display name of 3 to 24 characters. It must not impersonate someone else, imitate a member of the staff, contain insults or hateful content, or advertise anything.
- Keep your password confidential. You are responsible for what happens through your account, unless it is used without your knowledge and you tell us promptly.
- Use one account per person. Additional accounts created to gain a leaderboard advantage may be removed.
- If you sign in with Google, you remain subject to these terms; disconnecting your Google account does not delete your GeoTrainers account.
We may ask you to change a display name that breaks these rules, or change it ourselves if you do not.
5. Fair play
Leaderboards only mean something if scores are earned honestly. The following are prohibited:
- Using a bot, a script, an automation tool or any modified client to play in your place or to assist you.
- Tampering with the game's requests or responses to alter a score, an Elo rating or a result.
- Exploiting a bug or a flaw instead of reporting it, in order to gain an advantage.
- Coordinating between accounts to inflate a ranking, or arranging results in multiplayer.
- Extracting the game's data en masse, scraping the site, or overloading the servers with automated requests.
We may correct or delete a score obtained in breach of these rules, reset a ranking, and suspend the account concerned.
6. Conduct with other players
Friends lists, multiplayer sessions and in-game chat are shared spaces. In them you must not:
- Harass, threaten or insult another player, or spread hateful, discriminatory, violent or sexual content.
- Publish someone else's personal information, or share content that infringes the rights of a third party.
- Send spam, advertising, malicious links or repeated invitations.
- Attempt to obtain another player's credentials or to access an account that is not yours.
Chat is not private: the participants in a session can read it, and a message may be reviewed as part of moderation.
7. Content you publish
You remain the owner of what you publish — display name, chat messages, shared challenges. By publishing it on GeoTrainers, you grant us the free, non-exclusive right to host it and display it within the service, for as long as it is needed to run the relevant feature.
You are responsible for that content and you confirm that you have the right to publish it.
8. Moderation and suspension
If these terms are broken, and depending on how serious and how repeated the breach is, we may remove the content concerned, cancel a score, restrict access to a feature, or suspend or close the account.
In case of a serious breach, the measure may be immediate. You can always contest a decision by writing to contact@geotrainers.com, and we will re-examine it.
9. Voluntary support
GeoTrainers is free, carries no advertising and sells nothing. You can support the project on Patreon if you want to, but that support is a voluntary donation: it buys no feature, no advantage in the game and no leaderboard position. Those contributions are handled entirely by Patreon, under its own terms, and we never see your payment details.
10. Availability of the service
GeoTrainers is run by one person as a free project. We do not guarantee that the service will be available without interruption or free of errors. Maintenance, an incident or a technical constraint may make the site unavailable temporarily.
We may add, change or withdraw a game mode or a feature, and may reset a leaderboard at the start of a new season or after a scoring change. Where such a change is significant, we announce it on the updates page.
11. Intellectual property
The name GeoTrainers, its logo, its interface, its texts and its source code are protected. You may play the game and share links to it, but you may not copy, reproduce or exploit the site or a substantial part of it without our prior authorisation.
The game builds on open data and open source work, which remains subject to its own licences:
- City data from GeoNames.
- Map tiles from CARTO, built on data from OpenStreetMap contributors.
- Country boundaries from Natural Earth.
- Interface libraries published under their respective open source licences.
12. Liability
The service is provided as it is, free of charge. We are not liable for the loss of progress, a score or a session caused by a technical incident, a browser change or the clearing of your local data, nor for indirect damage arising from your use of the game.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law does not allow it, in particular in case of gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or affects the rights consumers have under French law.
13. Personal data
We collect the minimum a game account needs, we display no advertising and we use no third-party tracker. Everything is set out in the Privacy Policy, including how to access, correct or delete your data.
14. Ending your use
You can stop using GeoTrainers at any time and delete your account yourself from your account page. Deletion is permanent: your profile, your scores, your friendships and your messages are removed and cannot be restored.
We may close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaches these terms, or one that has been inactive for a very long time, after informing you at the email address linked to it whenever possible.
15. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by French law. If you are a consumer, you keep the benefit of the mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence, and you may bring proceedings before the courts of your place of residence.
Before any legal action, please contact us at contact@geotrainers.com: most problems are settled in a few messages. Consumers in the European Union may also use the online dispute resolution platform provided by the European Commission.
16. Changes and contact
These terms may change as the game evolves. The date at the top of the page always shows the current version, and a significant change is announced on the site before it takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new version.
